Understanding the Challenges SEND Parents & Carers Face

Hosted by: Cheetham CofE Community Academy
Presented by: One Education and Neurodiversity Learning Hub (NLH), in collaboration with Manchester Parent Carer Forum and Manchester Parent Champions

This interactive workshop focused on the real challenges parents and carers can experience when navigating SEND, education and support for their children. It provided an opportunity for parents to talk about the difficulties they were experiencing, ask questions and receive information and practical guidance. Most importantly, the session provided a welcoming space where parents could share their experiences, feel heard and become better informed about the support available to their families. All parents and carers were welcome.

Topics in our growing programme

Alongside our collaborative and professional-led sessions, Neurodiversity Learning Hub is developing a growing programme of NLH-led workshops and training. These workshops will combine practical SEND information, advocacy knowledge and lived experience to help parents and carers better understand their child's needs and navigate the SEND system with greater confidence. Further topics will be added as the programme develops and in response to what families tell us they need.

For Schools & Organisations

Workshops in Schools & Community Settings

NLH welcomes opportunities to work with schools, parent groups, community organisations and services to bring SEND information and support directly to families. Workshops can be tailored around the needs of a particular parent community. Depending on the topic, a session may be delivered by NLH, presented collaboratively with other organisations, or involve an invited professional or specialist speaker.

If your school or organisation is hearing the same questions or concerns from parents, we can explore developing a workshop around that area of need.
